APPRENTICESHIP SUMMIT - YOUNG PEOPLE INVITED
Message from Braintree District Council:
Please be aware that any young people in your contacts are invited to the below event, it is not only for apprentices but for young people to self-development.
‘It is with much pleasure I am able to invite you to attend “The Apprenticeship Summit” enrichment day, being hosted by Braintree District Council on 15th September.
BDC have been working hard with providers in order to provide a development opportunity to young people from across Essex.
The day will be interactive with sessions designed to enrich apprentices and to give them the opportunity to network with other young people as well as learn from a variety of workshops.
Lewis Hatchett will be attending The Apprenticeship Summit as our guest speaker.
Lewis has had a career as professional cricketer for Sussex CCC. However, his story is a little different from the other 400 or so pro cricketers on the county circuit. Lewis was born with Poland Syndrome, a condition that affects 1 in 100,000 and in Lewis’ case means that he is missing his entire right pectoral muscle as well as two ribs. Through sheer determination to pursue a lifelong dream, Lewis will share his fascinating story and beliefs on how he has managed to get to the top of his sport despite his physical disability.
Throughout the day, each delegate will attend 4 workshops in rotation, as detailed below:
Health & Wellbeing: This workshop will be delivered by a representative from Fusion Leisure who will be speaking about health & well-being within younger people. This workshop will cover topics about food portions, body image, mental health and the dark side of sport.
Personal Safety: This workshop will be delivered Patrick Donovan, who will be covering some key areas to improve awareness of personal safety within younger people. This workshop will cover topics about Street Awareness, Terrorism and What to do when younger people are faced with dangerous situations (i.e. on nights out).
K9 Services: This workshop will be delivered by Phil Campbell who deals with canine issues. Phil will be delivering a wide range of information and advice about dangerous and aggressive dogs. This workshop also offers the chance to get hands on with some friendly K9’s.
Money Management: Sessions will be run by a team of Barclays Bank staff, designed to help young people manage their money, help identify the dangers of credit cards & running up debts, and how to get a mortgage.
The Summit will be from 9.00 - 16.30 and will be held at Causeway House, Braintree.
The cost is £60 per delegate and this will include all refreshments and a buffet lunch on the day.
Please note this event is also open to anyone who has finished an apprenticeship or any young people who would benefit.
