REMOVAL OF BOTTLE BANK IN WETHERSFIELD
Please see below an email received from Braintree District Council regarding removal of the bottle bank in Wethersfield:
Unfortunately as no suitable alternative location can be found we have supported the removal of the ‘Bottle Bank’ and this will be removed on Thursday 11th May 2017. Signage will be placed on the existing site, and the notice board (laminated to avoid weather damage) , advising residents of the changes, and directing them to three sites, all within less than 1.5 mile radius of the existing site.
The site will be returned to a good state of repair by BDC. The alternative site locations will still be researched under a wider District approach to ‘Bring Banks’, residents will be made aware of the local sites via the website locator and this will hopefully enable them to still recycle glass and avoid glass being placed in the grey bin. I have approached a few supermarkets in the area, however, I am not getting any commitments to ‘host’ a bank of this nature, for a variety of reasons.
The existing site is not fit for purpose and overhead cables do not allow the glass vehicle to lift larger bins and the access issues from roadside would then involve Essex County Council as this would be on the highway. The location of the pre-school also adds to the unsuitability of the site, as the danger of broken glass and vehicles reversing is not acceptable.
I trust the above information is of use and can be used as an example of how we have tried to seek alternative solutions, but have not been successful. The alternative sites are in close proximity of the village and we hope residents will be able to utilise these facilities.
