DFPFA Appeal to residents
In May 2016 the Derek Flannery Playing Field Association (DFPFA) recorded its 5th year in operation since the inauguration of the newly built Pavilion. The DFPFA has of course done much over a number of decades but there is little doubt that the installation of a multi-purpose facility on Wethersfield’s playing field was a game changer in giving the whole operation a new sense of purpose. In the intervening years since the May 2011 opening the volunteer workforce of the association has been either actively involved in or collaborated on a number of other developments at the playing field that have added value to the overall service to residents in Wethersfield and surrounding districts. Among these are the installations of a new tournament-sized Petanque court, Outdoor Cricket practice net, a number of enhancements to the playground, picnic tables and park benches. At the same time the Pavilion has hosted any number of private functions the majority of which are for childrens’ birthday parties while our users from Wethersfield Pre School, Wethersfield CofE primary school and the Cricket, Yoga and History clubs continue to make full use of the facilities on a regular basis,
All good then but we want to be sure that we can carry on along this successful path and that’s where you come in. We have all witnessed the sad decline of the Village Hall in recent years and while we can be very relieved that some good people have stepped in to pull the hall back from the brink and matters are now looking a lot rosier, the DFPFA is mindful of the fact that its own operation is reliant on a few individuals who give up significant chunks of their free time to ensure the playing field and Pavilion remain fit for purpose. Some of us are not getting any younger and while for the most part we are prepared to carry on with our tasks the association believes very strongly that in order to avoid another Village Hall experience it needs to attract other residents of Wethersfield to take an active part in the DFPFA’s affairs.
So why not give it some thought and get in touch using the contact details below, Alternatively, the DFPFA is due to hold its Annual General Meeting (Thursday 19th January 2017, 7.30 at the Pavilion) and this would be a good opportunity for anybody with an interest in getting involved to gain some insight and at least see how the DFPFA committee goes about its business.
