On 4th September the newly refurbished Wethersfield Village Hall opened its doors to its first booking! The Trustees are delighted with the result and hope very much that the community of Wethersfield will feel the same. On the 11th September we welcomed our new Postmistress, Christine, to the first session of the pop-up post office – she is certainly delighted with her comfortable surroundings. The post office operates on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon from 2pm until 4pm.  We must remember that if we don’t use it we will loose it so be sure to come along whenever you need something. We would remind you that this includes not just the odd stamp but you can withdraw cash, pay money into your bank, foreign exchange, send parcels and post letters. and so much more. It’s all there for you!

The Trustees are pleased to invite you to come along to our Grand Open afternoon on Sunday 14th October from 3pm. Have a look around the hall, enjoy a cup of tea, catch up with old friends and maybe make new. There will also be representatives from clubs and hall users so you will have the opportunity of finding out what is going on and maybe suggest some new activities.

The March of the Mods

For a couple of hours on Bank Holiday Monday morning the 60s came to the village hall when we hosted the breakfast stop for the Essex and Herts Scooter Club.  Approaching 100 Lambrettas and Vespas, some over 50 years old pulled up outside the hall so that their riders could enjoy coffee and bacon rolls and a good chat.  All went fantastically well, local residents helped by keeping the parking area clear and the trustees of the hall plus some other helpers kept the food and coffee coming making a useful sum towards the ongoing hall refurbishment programme.  Several of the scooterists said it was the best breakfast stop they had ever had and we hope to welcome them back another year.  Thanks to all involved.

Music for a Summer Evening

Previously our music events have been mostly rock and roll but now for something completely different.  On Sunday June 24th at 6.00pm we will be welcoming the East Anglian Single Reed Choir for an evening of light classical music together with a Pimms and Prosecco bar and strawberries and cream.  Come along! Tickets are only £10 and available from Mair (01371 850620) or by emailing (For those who don’t know, and I didn’t, a single reed choir is an ensemble of various types of clarinet and saxophone)

Totally Elton – Total success!

The village hall saw another fantastic evening on Saturday when Totally Elton, a nationally known Elton John tribute artist played to a full house.  Not only did all present enjoy a great evening’s entertainment but also the village hall restoration fund benefitted to the tune of £1160. A great result all round.  Look out for information about our next event, an evening with the East Anglian Single Reed Choir on June 24th.
