Braintree Community Transport

Message from Community Transport, Braintree District Council:

Braintree Community Transport are in need of volunteer drivers across the whole district to drive for us, either in their own car or in one of our five 12-seater minibuses (training is provided for minibuses).

Community Transport is a service dedicated to providing subsidised transport to non profit making groups and individuals.

The service has been in operation for 20 years and can provide ad hoc, one off or regular transport.

Group Hire Minibus Scheme

Five fully accessible, 12 seater minibuses with driver provided or on a self-drive basis.  Annual membership fee is £25 and then a mileage rate of £1.50 per mile is payable (minimum fare is £35).  Examples of trips the groups use the service for are day trips to places of interest such as garden centres or the seaside, ad hoc/weekly shopping trips, pub lunches etc.  Multiple buses can be hired and we travel anywhere within the UK.  For example a local trip which is under 20 miles return costs as little as £35.

Social Car Scheme for Individuals

The service can be used for access to the local community and its services for journeys such as shopping, health related appointments, social clubs, visiting friends and family.  Cars are available from Monday to Friday between 8.30 and 17.00.  Annual membership fee is £20, trips cost £3.50 up to 5 miles one way of £7 return.  Passengers can be taken to and from destinations within Braintree district with the exception of hospitals in Chelmsford and Colchester, where a drop off service is offered.

Dial-a-Ride Scheme for individual wheelchair users, those who use mobility aids or those unable to get into a car

Operates on the same principles and cost as the social car scheme, however, instead of a car, a specially equipped, fully accessible minibus is provided for passengers who need to travel in their wheelchair or take their mobility aid.  The minibus has a tail lift and low entry steps.

It is time to update villagers on the plans for the next production
with regard to ticket sales and information on the show itself.

This year there will be some changes to ticket sales due to the closure of the Post Office in Wethersfield. The Box Office will be situated at either the houses of John Pearce,

Charlotte Holliday or Geraldine Stuckley, this will be made clear by having a large ‘Box Office’ sign outside the relevant house on the day.

Tickets will also be available from the new Post Office facility in the Village Hall, the sign will be placed outside on the appropriate day.

Ticket prices will be £8 for adults (£7 concessions for over £65 or under 16). On the Saturday night we will have a Fish and Chip supper with tables. The ticket price will be £15 for the Saturday night including the fish and chip supper.

Tickets are due to be on sale in the next couple of weeks. John Pearce will be available for more information on tickets on 01371 851019 on

It is important that all members help to push the production and encourage friends family etc. to buy tickets, as without the main Post Office, exposure of the Play will be less than in previous years.

The Play itself as mentioned earlier is going well and is a comedy murder mystery, on the Friday and Saturday night ‘The last Drops’ will be playing their popular tunes to entertain the audience.

More information will follow soon.
