FROM CLLR BENTLEY, ESSEX COUNTY COUNCIL:
A120 to Millennium Way Slip Roads – work updates
We will be contacting local residents and businesses next week to let them know about upcoming construction works on the A120 to add two new slip roads to Millennium Way (B1018). This scheme will help to relieve congestion at Galleys Corner and stimulate future commercial investment and job creation along the A120. It will also provide more direct routes for residents, businesses, and visitors to nearby amenities.
Preliminary work on the scheme is due to start in September, when Essex County Council’s contractors will begin a series of ground investigation and drainage surveys on the site. This initial phase of work will include minor excavations, samples and monitoring, and is expected to take up to six weeks to complete.
We plan to minimise disruption to residents by undertaking works during the daytime where possible, however some night work may be required. Minor vegetation clearance will be required to allow access to the site and it may also be necessary, on occasion, to introduce temporary lane restrictions on the A120. Disruption to users of the A120 will also be minimised.
Residents and businesses close to the site will be sent a letter in the next week to inform them of the scheme. We understand that this scheme will be of interest to many in the Braintree area, and so we plan to update the dedicated webpage on Essex County Council’s website with more information as it becomes available.
Further information about this scheme will also be featured, along with the Braintree Integrated Transport Package (ITP), at a number of public information events in October. The details of these events are provided in the letter, on the website, and are given in full below.
The latest updates on the scheme, including a visualisation of the completed slip roads and more information on the plans, will be available at http://www.essex.gov.uk/A120millenniumway from Friday, 24 August.
Braintree Integrated Transport Package (ITP)
The Braintree Integrated Transport Package (ITP) is a package of schemes with the aim of improving access to Braintree Town Centre. In addition to a number of traffic management measures for Braintree Town Centre, it comprises two main priority schemes on which Essex County Council will be engaging with the public next month (September 2018):
Springwood Drive Junction (Springwood Drive / Rayne Road / Pods Brook Road): Junction improvements to address traffic congestion and accommodate future growth
Station Access (Station Approach / Rose Hill & South Street Junctions): Improvements to Station Approach to enhance accessibility and amenity for various users of Braintree Station and local residents
Public consultation on the Braintree ITP is scheduled to launch on Monday, 10 September 2018 and will be open for 7 weeks, closing 29 October 2018.
Two consultation events will be held in Braintree during the consultation period in October. These will provide interested parties with details of the proposals and members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions.
o Saturday, 6 October (10am-4pm) – Council Chamber, Braintree Town Hall
o Friday, 12 October (11am to 7pm) – Alec Hunter Academy
The latest updates on the Braintree ITP schemes, and more information on the plans, including details on how consultees can provide feedback on the proposed schemes will shortly be available at http://www.essex.gov.uk/braintreeitp.
