Following a review of all services this morning, Braintree District Council have the following update:
Refuse and recycling – Collections have resumed today with caution and crews are reporting back that some areas are inaccessible. Thursday’s work is being undertaken today. Weather permitting, Friday’s collections will be on the scheduled day. Wednesday collections will now be undertaken on Saturday 3rd March. The garden waste service has been suspended for the rest of the week to enable our resources to focus on collecting black bin waste and recycling sacks. Garden waste will not be collected until the next scheduled collection day. We apologise for any inconvenience.
Street Scene and Grounds Maintenance – The street scene team continue to divert resources to where it is needed. This morning they are focussing on trying to empty litter and dog bins, catching up from yesterday whilst gritting as required in town centres and they spent yesterday clearing snow. We have received a number of compliments from members of the public, including the following from a Braintree resident “A Big Thank You to the crew that are clearing the snow and gritting the town this morning, they have done a great job”
Community Transport – In the interests of passenger and volunteer safety all services have been cancelled for today and customers have been contacted by the team to let them know. The team will review the situation each morning.
All other services are functioning but some are operating on reduced staffing. The customer service centre and reception at Causeway House are open and taking calls and visits.
Help for Rough Sleepers – Our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) Procedure is in place to assist anyone who is sleeping rough. SWEP arrangements are triggered when the night time temperature is predicted to be zero degrees or below for three consecutive nights. The SWEP may also apply in the event of other exceptional adverse weather conditions.
We work closely with a wide range of other agencies, including the Police and the Salvation Army. Please note the earlier in the day we know of someone, the easier it is for us to make contact with them and offer shelter.
If you are aware of someone who is possibly rough sleeping please contact 01376 552525 and ask for the Housing Options Team, an officer is on call out of normal office hours.
We will be updating the website, phone service and social media throughout the day to keep customers updated on services.
If there is any further update on the situation, I will contact you. In the meantime, if you have any concerns from residents, please refer them to the website www.braintree.gov.uk<http://www.braintree.gov.uk> or ask them to contact customer services on 01376 552525.
