Iyengar Yoga

Come and join us for Iyengar Yoga!
Monday nights 19:45 – 21:15

What is Iyengar Yoga?

Yoga is one of the oldest systems of personal development in the world.  Its aim – to balance the body, mind and spirit.  Yoga asanas (poses) and pranayama (awareness of the breath) aim to reach all the muscles, nerves and glands of the body and promote physical and mental health.

The Iyengar Method

The Iyengar method of yoga is named after our teacher B.K.S. Iyengar.  The teaching helps you focus on correct alignment of the body in poses ensuring you’re working safely, with maximum benefit to your flexibility, strength and wellbeing.  Props such as blocks, blankets and belts are sometimes used to allow those with less strength or flexibility to work correctly and achieve their full potential.

Xmas tree decoration week of 11th Dec

This is the first year for some time that we have not held a Flower Festival in our church during the summer. As a change, and to do something a bit different for the Christmas Festival, we have been able to obtain some small Christmas trees to use as decoration in the church. We are inviting you to decorate a tree on behalf of your organisation. The choice of decoration is left to you, traditional or original, maybe promoting your club! The trees will be available from Monday 11th December to be ready for Saturday 16th when we will be holding an “OPEN CHURCH” from 2pm to 4pm with TEA AND MINCE PIES and CHRISTMAS MUSIC from Jessie Tabor and some of her young musicians.

Introducing HeadsUp Employability Programme (Braintree & Uttlesford)

HeadsUp offers advice, support and mentoring to people with common mental health problems such as anxiety or depression to help them get back into the workplace after a period of long-term unemployment. We understand that the journey back to work can seem daunting, so HeadsUp provides tailored one-to-one support from an experienced peer support worker for as long as the participant needs it.

Not only do we help our participants with the practical skills needed to return to work, such as writing a great CV or giving them the chance to practice interview techniques, we also focus on the emotional impact of making such a big change to their lives. We believe that to be successful in returning to work after a long-term unemployment, consideration needs to be given to the emotional barriers that might be present such as anxiety, lack of self-confidence or negative thought patterns. Through a series of interactive workshops participants are given the chance to explore their emotional well-being, discover ways to build their personal resilience and learn how to manage their feelings when faced with stepping outside of their comfort zone. Our programme is a solutions-based model so we help our participants identify and focus on positive solutions to their situation and share in their successes and progress as they complete each stage to help reinforce self-esteem and self-belief.  You can click on this link to watch a short film about HeadsUp https://youtu.be/yQ1LC6Oq7FY

Have your say on the plans for the West of Braintree and Colchester Braintree Borders Garden Communities

Residents across the Braintree District are being encouraged to have their say on plans for two Garden Communities.

Their views will help shape the future of the project which is now open for public consultation. All residents are encouraged to attend one of ten local exhibitions or give their views online.

Braintree District Council Leader Graham Butland said he encourages everyone to get engaged with the process and have their say on the proposals for the West of Braintree and Colchester Braintree Borders Garden Communities.

He said: “The proposals in our Local Plan, which is now with the Planning Inspectorate, include two garden communities which will allow us to meet the independently assessed housing numbers while also providing significant infrastructure – something we just cannot do by continuing to tack housing on to existing towns and villages.

“The Planning Inspectorate will consider our Local Plan from January 2018 but in the meantime there is work to be done to explore, with our residents, how these garden communities could develop. We want to be in a position where we can move forward armed with the views of our residents so that, if we get the green light, we can start to create these well-planned and well-designed communities.

“If you are interested in green spaces or smart technology, or if you want to have your say on how the communities should be designed or maybe you are interested in transport links or job creation – this consultation is the place to give your views on a whole host of topics associated with creating good, modern communities.”

Councillor Lynette Bowers-Flint, Cabinet Member for Planning & Housing at Braintree District Council, said: “I hope residents will take this opportunity to have their say. We’re right at the beginning of the project and nothing has been set in stone so this is the perfect time to get involved, whether you live close to the boundaries or not, whether you already own a home or you are still trying to get on the housing ladder. Wherever you live in the district and whatever your perspective – we want to hear from you.”

There is a third Garden Community proposed and that, if approved, will be located on the Colchester/Tendring border.

Consultations on all three began on Monday, November 13 and run for 10 weeks through until 5pm on Monday January 22, 2018.

The Braintree District Council website is hosting all 3 online consultations.  The link is here – select which document you wish to respond to:
