Iyengar Yoga

Come and join us for Iyengar Yoga!
Monday nights 19:45 – 21:15

What is Iyengar Yoga?

Yoga is one of the oldest systems of personal development in the world.  Its aim – to balance the body, mind and spirit.  Yoga asanas (poses) and pranayama (awareness of the breath) aim to reach all the muscles, nerves and glands of the body and promote physical and mental health.

The Iyengar Method

The Iyengar method of yoga is named after our teacher B.K.S. Iyengar.  The teaching helps you focus on correct alignment of the body in poses ensuring you’re working safely, with maximum benefit to your flexibility, strength and wellbeing.  Props such as blocks, blankets and belts are sometimes used to allow those with less strength or flexibility to work correctly and achieve their full potential.

Xmas tree decoration week of 11th Dec

This is the first year for some time that we have not held a Flower Festival in our church during the summer. As a change, and to do something a bit different for the Christmas Festival, we have been able to obtain some small Christmas trees to use as decoration in the church. We are inviting you to decorate a tree on behalf of your organisation. The choice of decoration is left to you, traditional or original, maybe promoting your club! The trees will be available from Monday 11th December to be ready for Saturday 16th when we will be holding an “OPEN CHURCH” from 2pm to 4pm with TEA AND MINCE PIES and CHRISTMAS MUSIC from Jessie Tabor and some of her young musicians.

Introducing HeadsUp Employability Programme (Braintree & Uttlesford)

HeadsUp offers advice, support and mentoring to people with common mental health problems such as anxiety or depression to help them get back into the workplace after a period of long-term unemployment. We understand that the journey back to work can seem daunting, so HeadsUp provides tailored one-to-one support from an experienced peer support worker for as long as the participant needs it.

Not only do we help our participants with the practical skills needed to return to work, such as writing a great CV or giving them the chance to practice interview techniques, we also focus on the emotional impact of making such a big change to their lives. We believe that to be successful in returning to work after a long-term unemployment, consideration needs to be given to the emotional barriers that might be present such as anxiety, lack of self-confidence or negative thought patterns. Through a series of interactive workshops participants are given the chance to explore their emotional well-being, discover ways to build their personal resilience and learn how to manage their feelings when faced with stepping outside of their comfort zone. Our programme is a solutions-based model so we help our participants identify and focus on positive solutions to their situation and share in their successes and progress as they complete each stage to help reinforce self-esteem and self-belief.  You can click on this link to watch a short film about HeadsUp https://youtu.be/yQ1LC6Oq7FY

Village Hall update November 17

Much has happened since the last update in July.  The toilets are finished as is the small hall which is no longer the dark gloomy cold space it once was. It is now full of light and warmth and the perfect venue for smaller meetings or classes; in fact both yoga and pilates classes have started in the last couple of weeks. We are in the middle of a funding round to raise the finance to do a similar job on the main hall next year. So far contributions from the Lottery, the Parish Council and hall funds mean that we are well on the way to having sufficient finance with other applications still in progress. Other smaller jobs should be completed in the New Year including the insulation of the roof over the kitchen and rear areas and a new floor for the same space. Together with a new cooker this will greatly increase the versatility of the hall and make it an even more attractive venue.  Once again grateful thanks to all those within our communty who have donated freely of their time, skills and money to make this possible.  It is your hall, enjoy it.
